THE OBJECTIVE
My goal for this project was to conceptualize an innovation that would exist 50 years in the future. I focused on women's reproductive health: what that would look like, how it would impact individuals, and who those individuals would be. I let my research guide my process, leading me to conceptualize a dystopian product that reflects and dramatizes the current state of government intervention in women's lives. A challenge was considering how a mandated IUD might be diffused into society, given limits on government surveillance and control.
THE PROCESS
1
I researched the history and intersectionality of the birth control pill by charting it in a legacy map, which led me to focus on reproductive health.

2
Using three key data points, I mapped hypothetical futures and developed one where the U.S. government mandates IUDs at age 13, toggling fertility based on environmental, political, and financial factors.
3
Pulling from constructivist design, I created a poster artifact that would exist within my 2080 future as a selling point for the IUD innovation.

4
I created a poster using Photoshop and generative Dall E AI to create a baby graphic.

This project taught me the skill of future casting and how that can be used to think outside of the box and create concepts that are exaggerations of real world possibilities.
